Doctor Who 603: The Curse of the Black Spot

No River! *sobs*

I did laugh a little when we saw the injured pirate just had a scratch. Also the episode title didn't inspire any fear in me. "Spot" is not exactly a scary word although I suppose they couldn't exactly call it the Black Mark. (Old Voldie would definitely sue.)

"A green singing shark in a evening gown." Yup, it is Doctor Who afterall.

Insert young child to emotionally manipulate us. Check.

Clumsiest pirates ever!

Proof that you need River to fly the TARDIS. Leave the Doctor on his own with it and he has to abandon ship.

I knew Rory would be revived but I did wonder if they actually expected us to believe that if he "died" he was actually dead. I mean, Rory the Roman anyone?

Space Pirates!!! YAY!!! We will be seeing them again, yes?

Overall an enjoyable episode.

On another note, Mark Sheppard was in my dreams last night. We had a drink together. I told him I loved him as Canton. He seemed really pleased. :D

I didn't really get the episode. So, the Mermaid doctor took them to the infirmary even though they only had a tiny scratch? And then she didn't know how to heal them so they had to stay there? But then at the end we saw them on the bridge of the ship so they weren't in the infirmary. If she couldn't heal them, doesn't that mean the kid would die soon?

I quite enjoyed the episode as a lightweight, escapade of the week type of DW. Matt Smith in particular gets better all the time.

Wasn't remotely convinced by dying!Rory and Amy's tears. I think we get that she loves him now although honestly, as a couple they don't remotely work for me. I don't believe in them or get a real sense that they would love each other except that they keep telling us it is so. And why revisit the pregnancy/not pregnancy scan scene from the previous episode? Are they going to end EVERY episode this season that way, with the Dr wondering what's going on in Amy's womb?!

Really liked the creepy insert we got of the woman gazing through the door at Amy - nice continuity. I expect she's going to pop up every week!

Loved Hugh Bonneville in this - he's such a class act.

Yeah, I just hand-waved most of the plot in this one. I honestly think "A green singing shark in a evening gown" is the most explaining we are going to get... well, that and "forgot everything I said up until now".

I thought maybe the ship would help keep the kid alive, and Rory in stasis, but how come the pirate with the paper cut couldn't leave? Hardly life threatening. Arrghh HAND WAVE!!!

Yes, we must revisit pregnancy scan all. the. time. because it proves that Amy and Rory have sex (that's what Doctor Who is about now right?) and therefore PROVES they love each other and completely validates their relationship. /sarcasm.

:DDD

ROFL! I loved "forget everything I said up until now" *g*.

And yes - see - those are all the problems I had with it. It makes no logical sense - and DW often *doesn't* but I can usually see what they're getting at. In this one I was just befuddled. But I still rather enjoyed it! LOL!

And ROFL to Amy and Rory having sex - see, that's part of the problem for me. They just don't seem like a pair of people who WOULD! And I do not ship Amy or the Dr or Rory with anyone else so it's not that I've got some other ship fantasies going on. As with most shows, I prefer it if they keep romance out of it and just give us friendship and great plots. It seems like friendship is a dying art on TV these days and all friendships must hint at some underlying UST. Sigh. Even with Amy we had to go through the whole "stupid face" thing where we weren't sure if she meant Rory or the Dr. I would hope, as she married Rory, that she meant him!
