Have I mentioned I love this show like some people love their kids?
Seriously, I can be having a bad day or a bad week but when I sit down to see these normal people come on and do extraordinary things that make me clap and laugh and sometimes cry, it makes me feel like all is right with the world. And it's not just about Susan Boyle. There have been so many acts over the last weeks (months?) that have put huge smiles on my face.
But now we're in the semi final and I realise I'm gonna have to give up every night this week to my tv because I cannot miss a single moment.
Firstly, Diversity. These guys were amazing. The choreography was astounding. Such fun and comedy and pure physical talent in every second of this act. There have been a lot of dance groups this year but these were the guys that shone for me from the auditions and they didn't let themselves down. Such a brilliant start to the show.
The two acts I don't think should have been in the semi-finals at all were Nick Hell and Darth Jackson. I just can't believe these two were put through when some other amazing acts didn't make it. Seeing Nick Hell practising in his garage kind of said it all for me. He was an amateur act (if even that) with no real talent. The best thing about his act was how they'd styled themselves. they did look more like performers tonight. And as for Darth Jackson, well, the dancing storm troopers were brilliant... that is all.
I thought Sue Son was amazing too but I couldn't see Britain voting her through. That said Amanda got it right in saying that if Sue's "best friend" didn't support her in pursuing her dream she wasn't really a friend to begin with. I think the loss of that friendship weighed heavily on Sue but I can honestly say she did the right thing. Maybe BGT isn't her future but she definitely has a great career ahead of her.
Julia Naidenko (the belly dancer) was beautiful and graceful and obviously good at what she does but I couldn't really see an act like this making it through. As beautiful and entrancing as she is there was no real progression from the audition.
Natalie Okri was adorable but I was so disappointed with her song choice. I think with the right song she could have made it through. I hope she comes back next year. I'd love to see her again because I think she's a real star in the making.
Faces of Disco were funny and did entertain me thoroughly but I'm not sure about what kind of future the act has. With imagination and comedy I think they could do something with it but I think they'd need to diversify in order to last the distance.
Lastly, Susan Boyle. I thought she did great. I don't think there was any doubt she was going into the final but I thought the song wasn't quite right for here. Maybe she was nervous but it started quite weakly and I was biting my tongue and crossing my fingers in the hope that it would get better and thankfully it did. She's a real character. My only fear now is that people don't just vote for her in the final because of her fame but judge her on the performance she makes that night.
As for the result I really do think the right decision was made. Susan sailed through as predicted and Diversity really were the better of the next two acts though I have to say I think Amanda took the cowards way out voting for Natalie and forcing the deciding vote onto Simon and therefore making him the big bad wolf.
Can't wait for tomorrow!

Date: 2009-05-25 08:42 am (UTC)I would love to have been in the room when they got to deciding if Susan Boyle should be in the semis *g*. I suspect they just tossed her on the pile without even bothering to talk about it!
And yes - we have a whole week of this! I am actually bouncing with happiness as it's giving me something to look forward to every night and all the other TV is pretty crap at the moment!

Date: 2009-05-25 04:53 pm (UTC)The thing with Darth Jackson was that if the guy was actually talented or had a good imagination then it could have been a good act. I'm reminded of the act from last year (or maybe earlier) with the two asian guys. One was a jackson impersonator and then half way through his act this older, fatter, janitor "interrupted" his act and then they started dancing together. They were brilliant. Darth Jackson was not!
